I spend as much time as I can during the summer at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly. It is like summer camp for the whole family, and for me it is a place of deep spiritual renewal. Each week there is a visiting minister recommended by one of the members, and this summer I was moved by several.
1. Philip Gulley- Quaker minister and story teller
2. Oliver “Buzz” Thomas- Southern Baptist minister and Constitutional lawyer
3. Thom Schuyler- Youth Director at Woodmont Christian here in Nashville
Each minister broadened my perspective and touched my heart.
I also spent some time this summer with Emmet Fox’s The Sermon On The Mount: The Key To Success In Life where he sets out to answer the question, “What did Jesus teach?” He suggests that the Beatitudes are a complete exposition of “the Great Law of Life.”
If you really do wish to alter your life, if you really do wish to change yourself- to become a different person altogether int he sight of God and man- if you really do want health and peace of mind, and spiritual development, then Jesus, in his Sermon on the Mount, has clearly shown you how it is to be done (p15).
Yes, this was a summer of inspiration…
